It’s Okay to Not Be Okay: a talk on Mindfulness and Gratitude

In the month of April 2021, we conducted a webinar entitled “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay” for the lovely educators at a pre-school in Punggol, Singapore. With all the unforeseen stressors that come with the pandemic, anxiety and stress levels have been on the rise. The COVID-19 travel ban that had been put in place over a year earlier is also bound to cause bouts of homesickness in those displaced from their families back home because of work.

Beverly had been chosen to conduct an hour-long webinar/workshop on the topic of Mindfulness and Gratitude, consisting of psychoeducational content as well as strategies to improve the educators’ overall wellbeing. She also provided some insight into homesickness as well as some resources that the educators could use in their everyday lives. A Chinese language version of the talk was conducted by Low Zhi Min on behalf of Beverly.

The talk synopsis is as follows:

After the talk had ended, a QR code was provided for each participant to provide their feedback and ratings on the entire experience.

All in all, the webinar was a resounding success, with the educators leaving feeling more fulfilled and well-equipped with methods to better overcome stress, anxiety and bouts of homesickness. They also learned to be more self-aware of anxiety/depression symptoms (using self-report questionnaires) and that it’s okay to seek help – either by talking to their colleagues or reaching out to mental health professionals.
