“Children are the living messages we send to a time we will not see.”

In January 2022, we had the honor of conducting a meaningful webinar for a non-profit organization that reaches out to Singaporean children, providing opportunities that nurture their aptitude for learning.
This year, a collaboration with SUSS student volunteers from various specializations was coordinated, to plan a sports-themed experiential learning program, targeted at children aged 11-14 years old. In preparation for the upcoming program, Beverly was consulted for her expertise, to conduct a 2 hours-long sharing session.

The session covered the use of various psychological tools to address children’s emotional needs. They were taught tools to help children identify and discuss their feelings, problem solving frameworks, signs and appropriate reactions during children’s sharing as well as various relaxation strategies. Students also took turns to role-play in various scenarios that they might encounter out in the field, learning to deal with potential situations first-hand.
More importantly, students were encouraged to look past the idea of misbehaviour, by exploring the significant root causes of challenging behaviours and understanding the ramifications of adverse childhood experiences. The students were eager to learn and willing to share, with the talk quickly transitioning into a rather heart-warming and genuine two-way dialogue, where they reflected upon past actions and experiences and proactively asked questions.
After the talk ended, participants provided their feedback and ratings on the talk.
